This Mahal rug from the Arak region stands in the lineage of some of Iran’s most famous carpets, from Sultanabad to Ziegler, which were historically woven in the same area.
Because of its particular wefting and construction, it has an exceptionally soft handle.
The simple central medallion is quietly coordinated with the corner spandrels in matching tones, keeping the composition calm and understated.
The field is filled with the classic Mahi (Herati) pattern, one of the most time-honoured and widely used motifs in Persian rug weaving.
