Frank Lloyd Wright Sr. (June 8, 1867 – April 9, 1959) was an American architect, designer, writer, and educator. Wright began his career during the 1880's during the heyday of the Arts and Crafts movement. The movement's embrace of natural materials and fine handwork are reflected in Wright's highly embellished early work, The House Beautiful. As he launched his independent career, he became the preeminent developer and practitioner of the distinctively American Prairie Style, highlighting the simple geometric basis of nature. As Wright's style matured, it demonstrated a broader, more sweeping approach, reducing decorative design to abstracted beauty reduced to line, shape, light, and space through a blend of modern and traditional materials which eventually went on to shape Mid-Century Modern ideals. His vision to "make life more beautiful, the world a better one to live in, and to give rhyme, reason, and meaning to life" is carried on by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
